As a fell runner I love the hills and so to edit and grade this was special.
The event was amazingly well organised by Keswick AC and the FRA, generous sponsors and great support from the land owners teams from all over the country competed for the coveted trophies. I really enjoyed working on this video, to combine my love of fell running and editing/grading is a great combo for me.
I put a lot of work in and just on the off chance I entered it into a short film award. Amazingly I won the best Sports Film of the year for Pro Movie Maker. Imagine when this dropped into my inbox!.
“Dear Brian

ACTION & SPORT
WINNER: BRIAN BARNES FOR UK ATHLETICS BRITISH FELL AND HILL RELAYS
Shooting sporting action is a unique challenge not only to capture the movement but
also tell the stories behind the competitors – the pain, joy, heartbreak and thrill. So
when Brian Barnes covered the UK Athletics British Fell and Hill Relays in Ambleside,
he had the lot: hundreds of competitors, a stunning location and lots of achy muscles.
Barnes impressed us in this category for attention-grabbing footage.
Shot with a drone as well as slow-motion and normal-speed camerawork, Barnes
captured the essence of a tough event and the competitors who live to run up and down
slippery hills.
“It encapsulates fell running, especially a major event, well,” he insists. “It has been
used in a visual display of fell running in Ambleside.”
